Should I live on or off base? Should I rent or buy?

Early on in my career in the ADF, I didn’t think I needed to buy a house because we managed to save some money and we were financially better off from the investment returns we achieved compared to buying a house.  However, my goals were not all about investment returns and I eventually put a stake down somewhere.  Defence provide great support through subsidised rent and the Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme.   Your strategy should be to  make the most of what you have been given to achieve your goals.
