Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)

The Australian DVA supports veterans, serving personnel, and their families with the following:

1. Financial Support & Pensions

  • Disability Pension – Compensation for service-related injuries or conditions.
  • Service Pension – Similar to an aged pension, available to veterans who meet eligibility criteria.
  • Income Support Supplement – Extra financial support for eligible pensioners.
  • War Widow(er)’s Pension – For surviving spouses or partners of deceased veterans.

2. Health & Medical Benefits

  • DVA Health Cards – Provide free or subsidized medical treatment.
    • Gold Card – Covers all medical conditions.
    • White Card – Covers specific service-related conditions.
    • Orange Card – Provides pharmaceutical benefits for Commonwealth veterans.
  • Mental Health Support – Free mental health treatment for eligible veterans.
  • Rehabilitation Services – Physical and mental recovery programs.

3. Housing & Home Support

  • Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) – Assistance with home maintenance, personal care, and respite.
  • Adaptations & Modifications – Support for home modifications to assist disabled veterans.

4. Education & Employment Support

  • Veterans’ Education Assistance Scheme (VEAS) – Financial assistance for veterans or dependents in education.
  • Defence Force Income Support Allowance (DFISA) – Extra support for veterans receiving a service pension.
  • Employment Services – Help with transitioning from military to civilian careers.

5. Funeral & Bereavement Assistance

  • Bereavement Payments – Support for families after the death of a veteran.
